The Hockey News Publication

I like these because of a ll the information on the different leagues. NHL, Minor league, Junior, College and International. TSN analyst  Bob McKenzie's father was one of the founders back in 1947. It's been a long run for this publication. The oldest in my collection being Nov.17 1956. I have quite a few from the 60's, 70's and 80's. I don't buy every current issue, just every now and then. I like the old stuff.

My oldest 1956 issue is below. It does have wear, by no means in perfect condition.

The look and size has sure changed over the years.

O-Pee-Chee Hockey Cards

O PEE CHEE hockey cards are the ones that i have collected the most over the years. When i was a kid they were all you could get in my area. I remember when i was a kid playing minor hockey, i couldn't waite to get my equipment off so i could get to the snack bar and buy a few packs of cards. Imagine 5 or 10 cents a pack, Lafleur, Dryden, Dionne rookies got them all back then.Believe it or not throwing cards was a popular game back then. You and a bunch of your buddies would stand twenty or thirty feet from a wall, put a card between two fingers a snap your wrist and let the card fly.Who ever got closest to the wall won all the cards. The value was not there then. To do this now you would be insane!  Wish i could have seen into the future, i would have stocked up on these boxes knowing the market value today i tell ya.

None are in mint condition, but nice to have just the same.

Rare Hockey Cards

As we all know the older the hockey cards are, the harder they are to come by. However, rare hockey cards are found every once in a while. Below are three cards that i found in the very bottom of a box of old sports magazines that belonged to my father. I was pretty excited when i pulled out the last magazine and spotted the cards i tell ya. As you can see they are all in decent shape.

Export A Hockey Calendars

I remember my father getting these from the local Shell gas station when i was a kid. They used to get a few in and hand them out to the customers. Below are a few of the ones i have.

I have always thought the neat thing about these are the different championship team pictures from many different leagues. There are a quite a few of the leagues that don't even exist anymore. Many future NHLers played on some of those teams
